Travel Make-up: What to Pack

Apr 6, 2011 by     No Comments    Posted under: Tips

Depending on the type of traveler you are, the make-up you pack will be different from the next traveler. Travelers who are on the road for a longer period of time may not pack any make-up at all to make room for other necessities like clothing, toiletries, shoes, etc . Make-up is not a necessity for traveling, but if you are flying out for a high school reunion, partying in Las Vegas, or performing for a gig, make-up is a plus. Or maybe you just wanna look cute in every travel photo.

I’m not a make-up expert, and I tend to go for simpler and quicker make-up. I would rather spend more time sightseeing than putting on make-up when I travel. Depending on what you’re doing, you might not need any make-up at all. If you’re camping, snowboarding, or hiking, the make-up in your bag is just added weight. When I travel, I only bring the make-up necessary to highlight my features.

Make-up Travel Checklist (all are optional):
Foundation
Eyeshadow (3 shades)
Primer
Blush
Lipgloss
Eyeliner
Mascara
Foundation Brush
Eyeshadow Brush
Blush Brush
Make-up Remover

For make-up remover, I like bringing face wipes since they are convenient and fits anywhere in your luggage. After a long night, you can sit on your bed and easily wipe your face off.

I bring 3 shades of eyeshadow. I use two of the lighter shades in the morning for sightseeing, and I add a third darker shade for night time partying.

I separate my brushes from my make-up bag in a clear, plastic, durable ziplock that I purchased from MUJI to Go store in New York. It’s flat, so it fits practically anywhere in my luggage. I use a small bag for the rest of my make-up.

These are my simple make-up necessities. Do you prefer leaving make-up at home? Do you have make-up necessities I forgot to list? What do you bring to travel?
